Introduction
Hello!! My name is Glynda and I invite you to share artifacts acquired during my journey as a nurse educator. I graduated from Lamar University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degee in Nursing. Upon graduation I secured employment at a local hospital and spent the past twenty years in their employ. Over the past twenty years I was able to increase and enhance my knowledge of nursing through my work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit for twelve years. During that time I cared for patients undergoing invasive procedures of the heart and peripheral vascular system, post-operative coronary artery bypass and valve replacement and other critically ill patients. After twelve years I transferred to the Cardiac Catheritazation Laboratory (Cath Lab) to acquie new skills. While in the Cath Lab I was responsible for monitoring patients undergoing diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology studies. My duties also included assisting the physcian during the procedure, quality improvement projects and data entry. During this time I felt the urge to acquire a Master's degree in Nursing. The opportunity was availabe at Lamar University and so I began the journey to become a Nurse Educator. Over this period of time I have acquired a vast amount of new knowledge and also skills.

During this journey I have enrolled in numerous classes to accomplish my goals as a nurse educator. To complete the curriculum I was requred to complete an elective. The elective I selected was EDLD 5306-Concepts of Educational Technology. During this course we were required to develop various methods to convey information. I have included the best of the best of my works.

Prensky, M. (2005). Adopt and adapt: Shaping tech for the classroom. Edutopia.org, 1-6. Retrieved from http://biblos.lamar.edu/eres/heh/Abernathy/Abernathy%20EDLD5352%20Adopt%20and%20adapt%20Shaping%20tech%20for%20the%20classroom.htm.
“Schools (which really means the teachers and administrators) famously resist change (Prensky, 2005, p.4).

Any attempt to implement change results in a feeling of chaos for the participants. But change must occur for the students’ of today to acquire an education. As Prensky (2005) stated the children (digital natives) of today have been raised in digital technology, while the teachers and administrators (digital immigrants) have been drug kicking and screaming into the era. The reverse can be said for this author who was exposed to digital technology in the educational system after enrolling in graduate school. Earlier educational experiences consisted of classroom instruction, handwritten papers, actually learning to add and multiply without benefit of the calculator, and visiting the library to find books and periodicals. The change that occurred for this author at first was very disruptive, anxiety inducing, and fears of failure in tackling the digital way of schooling. But over the past two years I have discovered and expanded my capabilities to embrace this new technology. In fact, it has made the educational process much easier. To think we can now sit on the couch in our pajamas and access the library or attend class. My only response can be “What will they think of next?”

Just visited the youtube.com site and viewed the video "A Vision of K-12 Students Today". The information was delivered in a format that causes you to stop and think about todays student. The student of today is quite different than the 20th Century student. They present to the classroom with a set of different challenges and dreams of what is to come. They must still be schooled in the basics reading, writing, and rithmetic. But the educator of today must step out of the box to challenge the student to expand the basics and be able to function in the ever emerging 21st century. The students of the United States must be given the opportunity to learn and develop knowledge to compete with other students from other countries. It is sad to think that China has a greater number of honor students than the U.S. This must change since with cyberspace the students of the U.S. are now able to interact with students from other countries.
